And now officially Facebook is about to enter search market according to a report of AllFacebook ,It has been confirmed that Facebook is going to start a Open Graph enabled web pages which will show up when a user likes them. With this Facebook may be directly challenging a Google which is the market leader and things are not looking rosy for Google with this development and If these reports are true then Google should be preparing itself to lose anywhere between 10-25% of it’s Market share.

As people for Local search would go to Facebook instead of Google as there the pages would be ranked only by how many people like them..So the more number of users like your page you will appear higher in the Facebook ranking ..

From outside it may look a pretty good idea but there are some great disadvantages

a) It may rise no of fake accounts in Facebook as website owners may use API’s to make a bunch of fake Facebook users to like their page which were created them

b)It may also results in cash for Facebook like schemes and websites may themselves give out any incentives like discount of 10% for a like (something like that)

If Facebook is able to overcome these disadvantages then it’s going to be start of real battle between Google and Facebook in search marke

Of late Twitter had many capacity problems including a extensive downtime (Fail Whale) which lasted more than 4 hours last week and we may be seeing less of it the coming months as Twitter is planning to increase the rate limits for api calls periodically..Starting today ,Twitter would be experimenting the capacity they could handle by moving the rate limits from default 200 api calls per user to about 350 API calls per user per hour. These rate limits may change very often as Twitter would be a keeping a close watch on the performance on their servers

This is good move by Twitter as it would certainly please all the developers as they can work more freely with regard to rate limits and provide a better experience to the users who are using their apps

Yes now you can check your Foursquare rank at my app Foursquare rank

The ranks are sorted by Check-ins ,then Nightsout and then by Mayorshipsn and Gene X of Chicago is the one who has highest number of Check-ins as per the latest data..

Ranking Mechanism

Ranking of Foursquare users is done by means of Check-ins..Higher the number of Check-ins , higher is your rank!

Q: What would happen when two users has same number of Check-ins?

If two or more users have the same number of Check-ins ,then the highest rank would be assigned to the user who has the highest number of NightsOut between them..

Q:What would happen when two users have same Check-ins & Nightsout?

And If they have the same Nightsout also then the highest rank would be assigned on the basis of no of Mayorships between them..

Search for a User’s Rank:

To search for particular user and his rank use search or Check user rank option

For E.g

See M.G Seigler’s (TechCrunch) Foursquare rank here

Note:

a)Check-ins and ranking are updated continously!

b)Your City/State may differ as it is based on current city where you are at the time of data indexing

Display ranks

Using Display ranks option you can display any rank between say 556 to 603 or 600000 to 600500 etc.,

This allows you to check who has particular rank..Check it here

Of late we have seen many glitches in Foursquare’s search functionality .. sometimes it would work and sometimes it won’t..To overcome this ,I created this site which would help Foursquare users with this powerful search functionality

4sqsearch:
4sqsearch helps you to search the Foursquare venues near to your place by tags and also by normal means. It currently searches more than 35,000,000 venues and also the venues are getting updated on daily basis

Url :http://4sqsearch.com

Prominent Features of 4sqsearch:

Search by Tags:

Let us say some one wants to find the gyms near the a particular place..For this they can use this search by Tag functionality which will show the list of Foursquare venues that has a gym tag near a particular place

E.g Gyms near Mountain View

Not only for Gyms you can search for Pizza,Sushi, etc., (any tag)

Search by Distance:

To find the gyms with a certain distance you can use this functionality..You can choose the distance either in kms or miles..If you choose 0.5 miles it would display a list of venues with a 0.5 miles distance from the place you searched for

E.g Venues which serve Pizza within a 0.5 mile radius from Wall street,New York

The above example will show a list of venues which serve Pizza within a 0.5 mile distance from Wall Street,New York

Search by Check-ins:

This is one of the most popular functionalities which will allow you to sort venues by check-ins.Generally the venue becomes popular when you have more check-ins..This one would help users to search by no of check-ins..For example if they want to see a list of venues near a particular place with more than 200 check-ins, then 4sqsearch would display venues with greater than 200 check-ins only

All these 3 functionalities can be combined together and used to find the best popular venues near a particular place..

E.g Venues which serve Pizza within 0.5 mile radius from Wall Street,New York with more than 100 Check-ins

The result would be the same one like before but now it would display venues with more than 100 check-ins..which means you can see the popular venues that are serving Pizza within a 0.5 mile radius from Wall Street,New York

Mobile 4sqsearch:

Mobile 4sqsearch has also same functions like main site but the greatest advantage is it would allows users to Check-in at a particular venue using our search functionality..Simply to say, Our Mobile web client allows users to check-ins at popular venues whereas Foursquare’s iPhone/Android app doesn’t display a list of popular venues
